Mui Ne, the German Tourist’s Paradise

To get to Mui Ne, beach town, home of Vietnamese fish sauce factories, bar hopping paradise and all round awesome place, take a bus north from Saigon to Mui Ne. It takes about 5 hours (most of those hours are spent getting out of the city).

Once there, you can explore the open and seemingly endless beach, decorated with German operated, owned and occupied resorts all with beach access.

We stayed in Mui Ne Hills Guesthouse. It is set on a hillside overlooking the beach, up a road which leads passed a lot of local ‘flavour.’ The guesthouse itself is run by a Belgian guy and a fun American who are both willing to give loads of advice and help to make your stay comfortable. We enjoyed our stay here, although it was a bit pricey.

Walking on the beach, we found cool rock formations and lovely views…

…and amazing sunsets.

On the beach you can find round boats, used by locals for fishing. We’re not sure on the design of these boats, as the idea is that 2 people sit opposite each other, and paddle. You would have to have both people paddling at the same time, or the boat would just go round in circles.

Some of the resorts do a deal where you can pay them $4 for the day and use their beach area and pools. We did this and had a great time, ordered a lot of food and drink from their bar too.

We discovered this fruit in Mui Ne too, and fell in love with it. It is a bit like a pomegranate, but not really. The Vietnamese call it Lu’u. These little guys are everywhere! We even had one in our room. We loved Mui Ne. But really you should check out the next blog post to find out why it was one of my absolute favourite places of our trip.

I love those round boats, don’t mind having one myself. Mind you I am still very confused with whole idea of round boat, unless it is for leisure parks.

Thanks for the comment, they made for interesting photographs. We stayed in beach bungalows in HaLong Bay where they had one that you could try out and we watched as many people tried (and failed) to use them.
